5% for the Community - McConnell Springs

Dan Stever on Jan 26, 2016

PathHidden behind the industrial zone of Old Frankfort Pike is a green gem and the birthplace of Lexington, McConnell Springs Park.  Originally settled and named Lexington by William McConnell in 1775, the 26 acre park wasn’t officially formed until 1993.

Klausing Group is committed to giving back. We donate five percent of our profit to make our community greener. Since 2001 Klausing Group has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of landscape services to keep Lexington green, trim and blooming. We believe by sharing our good fortune with others, we all profit.  As part of our 5% for the Community program, we have volunteered our horticultural services to our nearby neighbor over the years including cleanups, plantings, and tree prunings.

McConnell Springs offers many resources to the public:

  • Two miles of hiking trails and a half mile paved loop
  • National registered historic site with ruins of past habitation including a mill, distillery, and dairy.
  • The only sinking springs in Lexington where artesian springs surface, sink underground, and resurface again several times.
  • Education center provides passive and active learning opportunities for all ages with many visits by Fayette County Schools.
  • Sensitive habitat preserved to be enjoyed by all.
  • Over 130 species of birds makes it an important refuge.
  • Constructed stormwater quality wetland
