Action3 (2).jpgIf you’re managing a property in Louisville, you know two landscaping companies that are highly visible in the Central Kentucky market. Both have local Central Kentucky offices, and they’re competing for your business.

BrightView is the largest landscaping firm in the world with 22,000 employees across the country. GreenScapes was established in Louisville, Ky., 15 years ago and provides a range of commercial and residential landscape services.

When you select a landscape provider to care for your commercial property, there’s a lot to consider. You need a company that can meet all of your needs, whether you’re managing a shopping center, overseeing a portfolio of industrial properties, or running a corporate park. You want a landscaping partner that understands the unique dynamics of your grounds and how to maximize the value of your property. Because at the end of the day, landscaping is so much more than curb appeal and making tall grass short. And we believe you should expect more.

So, let’s take an honest look at what BrightView and GreenScapes have to offer. (Then, we’ll see how Klausing Group compares.)

BrightView

BrightView is the result of a 2014 merger between The Brickman Group and ValleyCrest Landscape Companies. It is officially the largest landscape company in history. What attracts some commercial property owners to BrightView is this national scope and corporate approach.

BrightView Vitals:

  • BrightView boasts a combined 140 years of experience as a merged company
  • It offers services that address landscape challenges—including improving sustainability (so important!).
  • A focus on maximizing strategic spend on the landscape investment
  • The name BrightView was selected to communicate “bright views,” or the landscapes it develops, enhances and maintains.
  • It serves commercial customers including housing communities, corporate campuses, healthcare facilities, universities, retail establishments, resorts and more.
  • BrightView builds landscapes from the ground up, enhances properties and provides every service required to maintain commercial landscapes.
  • It has a national reputation and local offices across the country serving thousands of commercial properties.

GreenScapes

GreenScapes is a homegrown Louisville, Ky., company that was started in 2001 by Cory Rudolph and Kevin Roseberry. Today, they are one the largest independent commercial/residential landscape maintenance providers in Louisville. The company boasts its full service menu, and caters to both commercial and residential clients.

GreenScapes Vitals:

  • Quality control, customer service and professionalism are its core values (we agree!).
  • Services include landscaping, fertilization, irrigation, tree removal and snow removal.
  • Horticulturalist on call 24/7
  • The business has grown to 150-plus employees in the last 15 years
  • Free quotes.

BrightView vs. GreenScapes (vs. Klausing Group)—The Difference

So, what separates these two Louisville landscape companies? A lot, actually. There are many similarities. Both offer four seasons of service, so you can rely on either provider for landscape maintenance, enhancements and snow removal. And both services cater to the commercial market. (GreenScapes also serves residential customers.) The visibility of both landscape companies makes them popular choices among facilities managers simply because their names are out there in the Louisville market. We often meet both GreenScapes and BrightView at the bidding table. (And they are not always awarded the business, we will add.)

BrightView is a strong player because of its national presence and its legacy companies track record for quality. Property owners knew The Brickman Group and ValleyCrest names, and they expect the same results from BrightView.

The Bottom Line: BrightView is a great choice for commercial property owners and facility managers that oversee properties with multiple locations across the country. Consistency in service is important. Because BrightView has offices all over the U.S., if you own properties in states beyond Kentucky, you might consider this national provider.

GreenScapes is locally founded, and we love the fact that this grassroots Louisville business has grown and thrived here. Property managers choose GreenScapes because of its full-service landscape maintenance capabilities, and again—they know the name. From what we know, GreenScapes has a high retention rate with its clients, who are loyal and tend to stick with the provider. And because founders Cory and Kevin are Louisville natives, they have lots of relationships with businesses in the community and have leveraged that to grow their businesses. (We agree—relationships are the key to success!)

The Bottom Line: GreenScapes will meet your commercial landscape maintenance needs because of its full service capabilities, and it’s a locally founded company. What you won’t get is the bandwidth that BrightView offers from a national perspective. (GreenScapes only operates in Louisville.) There is no evident focus on sustainability, green infrastructure or environmental services.
